Electrician Manager

Tornillos de Ixtapaluca, SA de CV                               1995–2004

Tornillos de Ixtapaluca is a screw factory with many different processes and different safety challenges.  They manufacture screws from raw wire to zinc plated goods.

They had no code in their installations and they were growing fast; they needed help to reduce consumption, down time for burning motors and fewer accidents. So I:

      • Calculated the power needs of the factory to suggest the most adequate substation and installed the most appropriate capacitor bank.
      • Prepared blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety standards (I used NEC code).
      • Assembled, installed, tested, and maintained electrical or electronic wiring, equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, magnetic starters and other components.
      • Diagnosed malfunctioning systems, machinery and components, identified the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
      • Performed management duties, maintaining records and files, preparing reports and training employees.

They now have a plant with an electrical installation up to standard, with possibility to expand; they also have reduced burning motors by 99%; there is now an electro-mechanical repair and maintenance department in place. I was unable to accurately measure the savings in power consumption because of the significant increase of employees, machinery and production. During the period when I worked for them went their annual sales went from $500,000 MEX to $5,500,000MEX.

Independent Contractor

Casas GEO                                                                       1999-2004

Casas GEO is one of the largest construction companies in Mexico. They usually build social housing, especially housing suitable for credit from INFONAVIT (low cost housing for government workers; no more than 42 m2 (450 ft2).

They needed a team to make the electrical installation for 900 houses in 8 months. (There were 4,500 houses in the subdivision).

      • I planned the project, creating working and purchasing schedules.
      • We trained 10 workers to place conduit and runways, pull wire, and strip ends.
      • My partner and I installed grounds, panels, switches and plugs.

We finished the work one week before the expected date and we did not exceed the budget for the project.

This small construction company builds high end houses (+750,000 USD). They needed a dependable and honest electric contractor.

They hired me to do the following for 11 houses.

      • The electrical installation: conduits, wires, grounds, panels, subpanels.
      • Installation of appliances, lighting, Jacuzzis, pumps and cleaning systems for swimming pools.
      • Installation of telephone, intercom and network wiring.
